After eating with abandon (brie in one hand, bacon in the other, booze balanced on my big boned belly), January always slaps me sober. A month that graciously sacrifices its life for the sins of December.
So in the spirit of torture and deprivation, the Sisters sampled three programs: Keto, Low Calorie, and Weight Watchers. The price you pay for exceeding the feed limit.
Val – Weight Watchers
Day 1/2
Sidelined sweets – Christmas blubber keeping me warm and satiated
Day 3/4
Ravenous – gastrointestinal tract thanks me profusely for scaling down
Day 5/6
Two day sugar detox headache – woke in the night gnawing on my arm
Day 7/8
Body automatically snaps into military mode – “Another tour of duty, sir,” it asks – no stranger to this January routine
Day 9/10
Bread is like the sun, it rises in the yeast and sets in my waist, but Oprah says it’s okay
Day 11/12
Still on the wagon – worried I’d replace drinking with murdering, but so far so good
Day 13/14
Underwear finally releasing it’s moose knuckle grip – reminded that Weight Watchers is a lifestyle, not a diet
Takeaway: Down 4 lbs. (weight gained over the holiday). I don’t reign it in to be skinny. I love how I feel when I’m strong!
Lori – Keto Diet – very low carb – high fat – high protein (don’t blame the butter for what the bread did)
Day 1/2
I need a support group to wean me off crack(ers) – who knew carbohydrates were so complex.
Day 3/4
Not one hunger pang – using 10% cream in my chai’s and whipping cream in my sauces
Day 5/6
Meat sweats – sluggish, no energy – missing wine and flaming hot cheetos
Day 7/8
Less jiggly even though all I’m exercising is portion control
Day 9/10
In the zone – no sweet cravings but eating peanut butter by the spoonful
Day 11/12
Groundhog day – the sight of avocados makes my teeth clench
Day 13/14
My wine fridge called…so I answered. I took a few of her friends out, had a few laughs, crammed a few crackers, but it was just a one night’er
Takeway: Down 5 lbs. – this diet is not for lazy snackers – plan, shop, prepare, chop – works great for charcuterie lovers like me.
Kyla – Reduced calorie diet – no sugar, lean protein, no simple carbs, lots of veggies
Day 1/2
Flat out hungry – tried a “chocolate flavoured tea” that chocolate hasn’t been within 10 feet of – only increased my irritability.
Day 3/4
Still hungry – jaw sore from chewing all the vegetables – tummy bloated from digesting said vegetables
Day 5/6
Went to a movie and skipped the popcorn. Full on Bullshit!
Day 7/8
Dinner out – planned for one glass of wine (one continuous glass!) – but no bread (pretty sure they cancel each other out)
Day 9/10
Cooked for the family – felt good to watch them eat – still riding the veggie train.
Day 11/12
Indoor golfed – somehow, gin got involved – savoured a pork chop for supper – oops
Day 13/14
Spinach and I are the best of buds
Take away: Lost 4 lbs. – found my perspective – great reset for the New Year!
