Red, White, and Grey!

I believe there’s room in a crayon box for every single colour. Each wax stick can be drawn upon to make my world brighter and varied. However, for the past decade, there’s only been two divisive colours to choose from. Black and white; extreme ends of the spectrum and never the two shall meet.

These tintless colours are throwing so much shade, and none of it enhances my landscape. What the hell happened to a nice neutral grey, something that lands just perfectly in the middle? Life would be whitewashed without complimentary colours to create something unique.

As I was thumbing through 50 shades, a dense orange crayon appeared. This pumpkin hue came in like a wrecking ball, snapping any crayon that wouldn’t colour outside its ambiguous lines. The polarizing tangerine tone is designed to divide and conquer, leaving the pack shell-shocked over the rising cost of Crayola’s.

Many manufacturers are eager to strip labels off other crayons, and force feminine colours back into the box. Meanwhile, black and white crayons can’t bring themselves to blend, even with an annexation threat gaslighting the beloved cardboard container we call home.

So far, there’s not a lot of sharp crayons in anyone’s box. The lack of centrism in today’s colouring books leaves me hankering for a different medium. I vote for a tub of heather grey pencil crayons. Allies of chalk, charcoal, ink, paint, and graphite – united together, who will stand on guard for thee! 🇨🇦
