The Secret Joys of Everyday Life

From shifting perspectives to the spiritual gift of saying no, aging provides many mildly mature reasons to be grateful:

1. Ride-or-die girlfriends who show up ready to roast our evolving bodies – tits to taint – over cocktails and carbs.

2. Declining plans without spending three days crafting an elaborate three-act apology.

3. Unwavering gratitude that our youth exists only in blurry memories and not documented in retro flashcube resolution. 📸

4. The thrill of plans getting cancelled before you’ve changed out of your sweats. Bonus points if you were already horizontal.

5. Trading eagerness to please for a finely tuned blend of boundaries.

6. The life-altering upgrade from underwire torture devices to soft, forgiving (these girls have been through enough) bras.

7. For all the Norma Raes and strong women who came before us, paving the road for a smoother (Sally) ride.

8. The poetry of a well-placed curse word, because sometimes “for fuck’s sake” is the only phrase that will do.

9. Thankful for toenail polish, making all feet look pretty from a distance.

10. Realizing life isn’t about being young again. It’s about being wildly impressed your body has survived, carried, healed, and still shows up every day.

11. Processed cheese in all its glorious forms – melted, spreadable, questionable. In case of emergency, I pray to cheezus.

12. A sister who’d do time beside me in a jail cell. Plus, the hard-earned wisdom that keeps me from landing in a jail cell!
