Philanthropy Is The New Black

The older I get, the more gung-ho I am to give back. Twenty years ago, I traded functioning brain cells for kids, but those days are numbered. The delicious new freedom is shadowed by emptiness. My purpose went MIA. That’s when my heart whispered contribute, volunteer, pay it forward, earn your keep.

But, what’s a girl to do? I had drive with no direction. All I know for sure is this fucked up world needs all the help it can get. Every small act of kindness is a giant leap for humanity. In these tough economic times, how can we make an impact? Enter Mealshare and the brilliant concept of Buy 1, Give 1.

Two young whippersnappers named Andrew Hall and Jeremy Bryant, learned that 8 million people dine out every day. They created a model where $1 from each Mealshare menu item sold at participating restaurants, turned dining out into helping out. Their vision has shared 1,323,353 meals with youth in need.

Life is a balance of give and take, then give some more. Kindness is gangster. Next week, Mealshare celebrates its 2nd annual Tonight For Tomorrow fundraiser. Val is the ambassador at 1410 World Bier Haus. Pop by for a bier and bite, or feast with friends at any restaurant listed below. Easy peasey, sure to pleasey!

That is great Val! I have been living in this world (ie. the world of philanthropy and community capacity building) for more than 25 years and know that the more you give others, the more you think of others in the little acts you do every day, the more your life is enriched in its most vital aspects. What you send out to the world will come back to you three-fold, and by giving to others for no other reason than to help their lives be a bit better you take your truest place in the world. <3 "We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give!"
