Why Are Women So Hard On Ourselves?

Sometimes I swear like a MF trucker. No surprise there, but I’m caught off-guard when it’s directed at me. I call myself an idiot when I’m absent-minded. I’m a cow when cheat meals turn into cheat months. I’m an asshole for listening to the funky voices in my head.

We’re all guilty of negative self-talk. Making mistakes and falling on our face is unavoidable, but you can’t keep a good woman down. Where’s the bloody Brownie badges for time spent on our knees? Twit twoo derogatory thoughts – screw you. We don’t need that negativity in our lives.

A  good friend’s chronic self-criticism motivated me to track my own cracks. This chick is smart, funny, a role model. I wanted to slap her and mumble mosquito. We can’t punch people for talking smack behind our back, but we can muzzle the bitch inside.

It’s time to stop beating ourselves up. The next time that inner bully starts slinging obscenities, hit the mute button, then take her out. Quit treating yourself like flip-flops when you’re clearly Louboutins. And remember, if you can’t say something nice…say it in French.

Know thyself, be thyself, love thyself
Say thank you to a compliment, without waving it off.
Pay attention to the times you put yourself down.
Redirect negative comments into positives.
Perfectionism is self-abuse of the highest order.
You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.
Only say things to yourself you’d say to your loved ones.
Be as civilized to yourself as you are to strangers.
