Divorce…The End Of An Error

In our early years, the running joke was if one of us left the marriage, you had to take the kids with you. The thought of single-parenting toddlers kept us on the straight and narrow. We’ve had our share of speed bumps, blindsides, and collateral damage, but thankfully for the “Bickerson’s,” the sugar outweighs the shit.

Over the years, the Sisters have witnessed both despair and relief following friends separations. It’s a mammoth move that happens regularly after the kids have grown – or the magic disappears. Tack on a two year lockdown to your social circle, and it’s like cellmates serving a life sentence.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. MARRIAGE. IS. HARD.

For newly single ladies starting over, it’s exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. The transition is difficult no matter who calls time out. Making it clear, the grass isn’t greener on the other side…until you water it.

Marriages end for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you were too young, thought you could change him, grew in different directions, or the dish ran away with the spoon because he needed to prove he was still attractive.

More divorces start in the bedroom than any other room in the house. Dating again after being with the same man for 10, 20, 30+ years is a mindfuck. You actually have to “try” again during sex. Grooming habits are higher priority, and you question if it’s possible to iron your birthday suit.

Alternatively, there are as many reasons why unhappy marriages survive. Couples live together, separately, because they fear being alone. Or, the disappointment of divorce is worse than the marriage. Splitting up family and friends at a financial and emotional cost means it might be cheaper to keep her.

Regardless of your circumstance, be your authentic self. Life is short and if Freedom 55 (< or >) is attained from being out on your own, then peace, love and serenity be with you!
