20 Years To Life

The judge asked, “Do you take him,
And commit to being a wife?”
“I do”, I decree,
“He’s the one for me.”
I’m doing 20 years to life.

The honeymoon phase was easy
Like doing time in juvie
Trading secrets and darts
While holding in farts
But this ain’t no RomCom movie.

When the shiny newness wears off
And a fight breaks out in the yard
I’ll yell and fucking curse
But I’m in, for better or worse
Life can be tough and marriage is hard.

We’ve been through the highs and lows
Done hard times in a financial dip
No worries, we’ll endeavour
Rich or poorer together
There’s no white flag above this ship.

Time flies and we’re getting older
Early parole is nowhere in sight
Stay strong and stealth
In sickness and health
Pray my mind holds and doesn’t take flight.

Hard to believe 20 years have passed
Since our sentence was handed down
You have all of my heart
Until death do us part
So, let’s go all in and double down.

Well done Lori. With just the right amount of sentiment and sarcasm. That’s hard to achieve!
